The rooster crows just outside the sanctuary walls of this place called Phumula. From hidden speakers, the American song Come to the Altar plays softly as the sun rises brightly over Eswatini. What a wonderful new day it is; all glory to the name of Jesus Christ, my King!
Last night, a small group gathered here, including several pastors who had traveled for this week’s youth conference, the very first of its kind. As introductions went around the room, each of the natives ended with the same statement: “I am born again.” Their bold joy in belonging to God’s family made my heart soar!

We closed the evening in worship together. Though I could not understand a word in their native tongue, our Sovereign Triune God drew my heart to worship in spirit and truth. Somehow, this place feels so familiar, like home, even though I know I am in a foreign land.
And that is exactly the life of a believer. We live as strangers here, passing through with eternity in mind. But when we finally step through the gates of Heaven, it will no longer feel like home; we will truly be home.
“But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.” Philippians 3:20
