Weary, Worn & Weak

After beginning at RDU at 3:30pm on Tuesday afternoon, we are finally, finally, in Johannesburg, South Africa tucking in for a night a BIMS. There’s relief, excitement and whole lot of exhaustion among this small but mighty team.

Our adventures to South Africa took us on a 14 hour layover in London, complete with a stop at Big Ben via the River Thames. One delayed British Airways flight later, we grabbed our bags and headed out to the Lion and Safari Park near Pretoria to see a few animals, and had dinner at the world-famous Carnivore restaurant. Truly, a bleary eyed delight!

This is our first night in a bed in two days. Tired is the understatement of the century. We are weary and worn and weak. Fighting fatigue and faint hearts, we head to Eswatini in in the morning. And you know what I think? Honestly, I think that’s exactly where God wants us.

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me..” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

In some ways, we’ve never been more weak in our lives, physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually. But we are called to weakness. We are commanded to it. This trip cannot come out of our own power, and every step has to rest in the grace of Christ. Not in our way Lord, in yours.

We sit in breathless anticipation for heaping buckets of grace in the midst of our own weakness. Spirit, blow us fresh wind. Move among us. Set the power of Christ upon us. We need you. Amen.
